The new trailer for Star Trek Beyond just dropped, and it features the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage”. When MCA died recently, his will stated “Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, in no event may my image or name or any music or any artistic property created by me be used for advertising purposes.”
The Boys licensed Sabotage for the original Star Trek reboot, as it was used in the scene where a young James T. Kirk raced his stepfather’s classic Vette across the Iowa farmlands.
I am curious to learn if the licensees felt this license game them promotional rights for the latest film. Or did Adam’s family decide since he was such a big Star Trek fan, he would have been OK with it. In any event, the new movie looks rad. I think MCA would enjoy it, with or without the Beasties in the soundtrack.
